ExplainStats for schools, universities and companies
One statistics add-on for every Google Sheets user of your domain, with nothing to host and no data leaving the spreadsheet.
What your IT and data-protection teams will ask
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Where are the calculations done? | Inside Google Sheets, in Google's Apps Script environment, while the user runs a tool. ExplainStats has no server that receives spreadsheet data; the add-on contains no code that sends data outside Google. |
| Which permissions does it request? | Three narrow OAuth scopes: the current spreadsheet only (spreadsheets.currentonly), the sidebar (script.container.ui) and the account's e-mail address (userinfo.email), used only to check a licence key. No Drive, no Gmail, no contacts. |
| Is it verified by Google? | Yes: ExplainStats passed Google's OAuth verification and the Google Workspace Marketplace review, and is listed publicly on the Marketplace. |
| What does it store? | Per user, in their own Google account: the interface language, a display preference, the licence key if any, the trial start date and a monthly counter of Pro analyses. Per spreadsheet, when a teacher turns exam mode on: an on/off marker and a hash of the PIN. Nothing else, nowhere else. |
| Accounts, tracking, advertising? | No account to create, no analytics inside the add-on, no advertising, no use of data for AI training. Details in the privacy policy. |
| Can students and staff use it offline? | Google Sheets needs a connection; ExplainStats needs nothing more than Google Sheets itself. |
Deploying it for the whole domain
A Google Workspace administrator can install ExplainStats for every user, or for selected organisational units, from the Google Workspace Marketplace with the Admin install option on the listing. Users then find it under Extensions › ExplainStats with no action on their side. Administrators who restrict third-party apps can allow ExplainStats by its Marketplace listing.
Individual users can also install it themselves from the Marketplace listing; the add-on is the same either way.
One licence for the domain
Pro features are free for everyone until January 31, 2027. For later, an institution licence covers every Google account of your e-mail domain (for example @university.edu) with a single key: no list of users to maintain, students and staff included, and new accounts are covered automatically. Keys never cover public domains such as gmail.com.
Planned price: a yearly fee per domain, in the range of a few hundred euros, depending on the size of the institution. If you need an invoice, a purchase order, or a quote in your currency, tell us.
For departments that teach statistics
Psychology, education, nursing, business, biology, engineering: the tools follow the usual introductory and intermediate syllabus (descriptive statistics, t-tests, ANOVA with post-hoc tests, non-parametric tests, correlation, regression, chi-square, reliability, sample size). Results are checked against SciPy, statsmodels and R by more than 1,400 automated verifications; see Methods & accuracy. The teachers page describes the exercise generator and exam mode.
